Approach to Therapy
I have practiced as a naturopathic physician specializing in psychotherapy for 27 years. My special interests: life transitions; grief and loss; healing trauma; coping with health issues, sensitivities and aging; and the conundrums of depression and anxiety. I assist the therapy process by listening well; guiding and witnessing felt shifts in emotional states; and participating in an interactive art of restoration, healing and empowerment.
Somatic Psychotherapy
We know from neuroscience that memories of felt experience are stored in the body, often beneath conscious memory. To attend to buried elements of developmental or shock trauma, chronic stress and persistent physical symptoms, I work with a client’s sensation, emotion, image, and subtle gestures to guide the disrupted autonomic nervous system to restore natural rhythms to the emotional and physiological systems.
Within an attuned, resonant therapeutic relationship, I support clients to discover inner resources for healing, regulate intense feeling, and explore personal meanings of challenging experience through somatic inquiry, gentle interventions, reflection, and dialog. By bringing forth felt experiences of vitality as we move through the process, traumatic experiences are transformed into a deep sense of resilience and meaning.
