Training
Up Close and Personal with the Autonomic Nervous System
Fostering Resilience in the Patient-Practitioner Relationship
Many chronic, poorly understood diseases contain elements of the body’s responses to trauma. In this seminar Dr. Rogers explores an approach to the autonomic dysregulation of common disorders – such as IBS, migraine, whiplash, chronic pain, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, autoimmune disorders, traumatic brain injury – based on new understanding of the autonomic nervous system. Research in neuroscience over two decades makes it clear that addressing chronic disruptions in physical and psychological well being necessitates changes in the nervous system.
Clinicians learn to attune and co-regulate with a patient through the body-based awareness and empathy. Whatever the clinical specialty, a practitioner’s efficacious therapeutic communication builds neural networks that foster a patient’s more flexible, resourceful, and embodied self-regulation. Over time the practitioner’s face-to-face rhythms of caring challenge and reliable support lead the patient to enhanced learning and greater resilience.
Training at Bastyr University on Saturday, October 16, 2010. 9:00 – 4:30 pm. 6 CEUs.
